Employability skills are essential if graduates are to gain entry to the workforce and transfer the skills learnt throughout their degree programme. As such we offer Level 4 Sports Massage endorsement for Higher Education Institutions (HEI) so that undergraduates can benefit from HEIs embedding industry occupational standards. This will allow undergraduates to gain entry to the Sports Therapy Association (STA) and fast track them into employment whilst studying.

We believe the winning combination of being able to offer valuable relevant industry experience coupled with academia that is industry recognised promotes best practice and provides the necessary skills an employer will be looking for.

Special delivery requirements

A key aspect of your endorsed award for recognition by the STA is that students must undertake a minimum of 36 hours practicum as part of their training, evidenced by a logbook and signed off by the training provider. An example of how these hours can be broken down is as follows:

  • 12 hours – Event Work – supervised
  • 12 hours – Case Study – academic setting (supervised clinic) – practical assessment
  • 12 hours – Community – unsupervised

To show the industry that you have embedded the required skills we will provide you with the STA logo and a certificate. Following approval we will send out a qualified External Quality Assurer (EQA) to ensure that we can support you to continue to meet the highest standards.

Ready-made learner materials

PD:Approval can provide a full set of learning resources for awards that are mapped 100% to the Level 3 and Level 4 Sports Massage National Occupational Standards. This includes Technical Manuals and Anatomy & Physiology Manual as well as full Learner Assessment Packs and a set of mock and live Multiple Choice Questions (fees apply). We will also provide a comprehensive Plan of Delivery.

  • L3 Learner Assessment Pack and MCQs, L4 Learner Assessment Pack: £200+VAT one-off fee

An Industry Award is a piece of training that has been developed by an employer in-house or by a private training provider, and offers graduates entry to the STA, i.e. Level 3, 4 or 5 Sports Massage course. Industry Awards must fully map to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) to ensure an industry benchmark is met, but it gives you the autonomy to add more contextualised content to the course and assessment – a huge benefit when developing your universal selling point to learners.

Special delivery requirements

Your industry award must include a minimum of 50 hours face to face practical delivery. In addition, students must undertake a minimum of 36 hours practicum as part of their training, evidenced by a logbook and signed off by the training provider. An example of how these hours can be broken down:

  • 12 hours – Event Work – supervised
  • 12 hours – Case Study – academic setting (supervised clinic) – practical assessment
  • 12 hours – Community – unsupervised

Accredited endorsement is for providers delivering qualifications via an Awarding Organisation which have mandatory assessments and are externally quality assured by that Awarding Organisation.

Please note: If you are offering 100% online qualifications where your Awarding Organisation stipulates a practical assessment, and where the qualifications are on the STA framework, they cannot be included in any endorsement and your learners will not be able to use them to join the STA as a member or to gain another level. Your qualification must include a minimum of 50 hours face to face practical delivery. In addition, students must undertake a minimum of 36 hours practicum as part of their training, evidenced by a logbook and signed off by the training provider. An example of how these hours can be broken down:

  • 12 hours – Event Work – unsupervised (STA will support learners to find event work)
  • 12 hours – Case Study – academic setting (supervised clinic) – practical assessment
  • 12 hours – Community – unsupervised

All those responsible for the qualification delivery must be suitably qualified and tutors, assessors and the internal quality assurer must hold the relevant qualifications suitable for those roles. PD:Approval will also request the Awarding Organisation external quality assurance report for approval purposes; providers with a Medium/High Risk status will not be eligible for endorsement.

The endorsement fee includes the cost of a quality assurance check by PD:Approval.

Providers who have a Low Risk status with their Awarding Organisation will receive a quality assurance visit within the first six months of approval.

Training providers with a Medium/High risk status can apply for endorsement once they have met their Awarding Organisation’s requirements and are rated as Low Risk.

Prices are per annum.

An assessed training programme must have a mandatory assessment (formative or summative) linked to the programme learning aims and outcomes. Total learning time (TLT) must be a minimum of 8 hours and may incorporate the assessment, pre-course study and break times. All training must be underpinned by current, valid research and be evidence based.

All those responsible for the creation as well as the delivery of the training programme must be suitably qualified. Authors, tutors, assessors and the internal quality assurers must hold the relevant qualifications or acceptable alternatives.

Training that includes practical skills is required to include a practical assessment. Practical assessments should, where possible, be conducted in a face to face setting. Video assessments may be used. Knowledge-based training requires a suitable theory assessment e.g. multiple choice theory paper or case study*. Theory assessments must adhere to PD:Approval’s invigilation guidelines and be completed in a classroom rather than online. The suitability of the chosen assessment tool will be reviewed by PD:Approval’s Technical Evaluator at the submission stage.

*Case study assessments must reflect the course learning outcomes and adhere to fair and reasonable assessment principles. Case study assessments may be completed online.

Hologrammed and personalised PD:Approval achievement certificates can be provided for your learners (£25+VAT each) by registering them on this site and providing their status when they have completed their assessment. Let us know if this is something you are interested in.

Prices are per annum. For full details of the submission process including an evidence list, download our CPD Submission Guide.

All training content must be underpinned by current valid research and be evidenced based.

All those responsible for the creation as well as the delivery of the training programme must be suitably qualified. Authors, tutors, assessors and the internal quality assurers must hold the relevant qualifications or acceptable alternatives.
